One Saturday morning as we were laying in bed, my husband was tracking his two sisters on their Iron Man race. Wanting to join the fun, I asked,
“How are you tracking them on their race? Is there an app or something?”
Him: “No. Just the internet browser.”
Me: “Okay. Is there a specific website or something? How do you track them?”
Him: “I open up the internet browser.” (He was starting to be contemptuous.)
Me: “There has to be a specific place you go. Do you have their athlete number or something?”
Him:: “Nope. Just the browser.”
Me: “That doesn’t make sense.”
He (with contempt) starts to explain how an internet browser works.
Him: “I know how a browser works. (I’m in tech.) What web address do you go to to track them?”
He lets me look over his shoulder to see what he does to track them.
Me: “Thanks. What is that url?” (At this point, I decided to pursue it as I really wanted to know how to track an Iron Man participant. Plus I was curious to see how long he was going to keep up being difficult.)
Him: “I don’t know.”
Me: ” How did you get to that? Is it on the Ironman website?”
Him: “I just looked up Panama City Ironman.”
Me: “I’m at the iron man website, was it here? I’m not seeing a tracker. I’d like to learn how to do it, since we are also doing an Iron man.”
Him: “I googled 70.3 Panama City. Went to supporters…”
Me: “Ah, You have to be on the race specific website?!”
Him: (took my phone) “Scroll down to supporters. That’s where.”
Me: “Thank you. Got it.”
This interaction was so bewildering that I quickly jotted it down while I still remembered it.
